This was our first time OVER the mountains. There are several mountain passes
to go through. We took the Santium Pass.
Here is what we saw...
Santium River
The pines don't have needles. They almost look like fern leaves. Probably
because it is so cold this high up.
One of several dams on the river.
Lake...formed by the Detroit Dam
This is pretty high. Remnants of the last fire to rage through
this area. The last fire was 2003.
At about 4,100 feet
Monica gives you a reference point for the snow.
It was about 60 degrees in the mountains today. Still lots of snow.
The yield sign also gives you an idea of the snow.
A friend promised to take me up on the mountain
in a snow storm. It can snow here well into summer.
This mountain is called "Three Fingered Jack"
Mount Washington
Mount Washington and more evidence of fire.
We go back toward the mountains later in the spring.
We are hoping to make a coast run as well. We will keep
everyone posted.
The last three posts cover 3 days. We were busy.
