Silver Lake, Oregon

This was the road to Silver Lake...mind you...Silver Lake is 90 miles from us in the Desert!

These are our hosts...

They had two horses...Doosenberry and ?

A little grassy oasis in the Oregon high desert...they call it the Oregon Outback.

Look at the mountains in the back.

Our place for the week.  The views are beautiful.

Then there was the landscape....

These two pictures are of Fort Rock.  It is the partial crater of a volcano.  There is lots of volcanic activity in the area.  The dust is like black sand, a reminder of it's violent past.

We drove up to the top of Table Rock.  You will see several pictures of it.  It is flat on top like a table.  This is one of the views from our climb to the top.

Doesn't it remind you of an old western movie!!!

From the top of Table Rock.

You could see Mt. Bachelor and the Three Sisters in the distance...

Everywhere you can see the results of volcanic activity.

Even in the High Desert you can't    escape technology.  See the cable?

The shadow of Table Rock from the top.

This is Table Rock.  It dominates the skyline all over this area.

Moss grows in the dead juniper trees here.  It was almost lime-colored.  It is crazy that it can grow in the cold, dry climate.

Just about 15 minutes away from the desert we saw these!!!
They are Ponderosa Pines.  Big trees, though not as big
as the Redwoods.  There was lots of snow.

The moss likes them too.

The road conditions can change rapidly.  This is left from a previous storm.  Mind you, we are only 10-15 miles from the house and there was no snow there and 45 degree temperatures.

This is for real.  It is a boundary tree for someone's property.

These are Aspens.  Because we were in down in the valley near a small
stream there were trees.  They are very old and beautiful.

This is a brother's truck.  It has over 500,000 miles on it!!!
Everything is far away out here so the
vehicles rack up the miles
easily.

The clouds here look like they are painted on a blue canvas.
These are for you Rebecca :)

Us...ahhhh...how sweet

Sorry it has been a week or so.  I will try to do better.  We are seeing some amazing country.
We have visited a town that occupies the bottom of a canyon.
We have seen the high desert in all it's glory.  I can't wait til we go back in the summer to
see the sagebrush in bloom.  On the way to Silver Lake I thought I saw a dog in the road...
it was a Golden Eagle.  It was huge.  No picture though... :(
The pictures don't really do it justice, but that is ok.  You will all need to visit and so far no HOBO spiders.

Hope you are all well.  Give each other hugs from us.
LOVE TO ALL!!!!!!
